I was fortunate to grow up in a house with two parents who loved to cook. Desserts were the domain of my Irish grandmothers – two amazing women who never showed up to a family gathering without an assortment of cakes, pies and cookies.
Inspired by my family's passion for home cooking and my insatiable sweet tooth, I attended culinary school in New York City, hoping to realize my dream of becoming a pastry chef. I spent the next five years learning from talented, top-tier chefs in restaurants and bakeries in NYC. In 2015, my wife and I moved to her hometown, Houston, where I had the opportunity to continue learning from the best.
In 2017, driven by a desire to share my love of pastries in a more personal way, I decided to start Harris & Essex, a bakery focused on using high-quality ingredients to make delicious customized treats. We're not trying to reinvent the wheel. From French classics to New American favorites, influenced by the flavors of both New Jersey (Essex county) and Texas (Harris county), we just want to brighten your day with the best baked goods around.
